Loving others

“By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:35
Did you know that a disciple means to be a committed follower of Jesus Christ and to share His message with others? This is how you show others that you love Jesus. How do you know that you love Jesus? Look at what you say, how think and how you treat the people around you. Do you think God will be pleased by your actions?
I know it is not always easy to love others, especially when they’ve wronged you. But we don’t love others because they love us, we love them because God loves us and asks us to love others like He loved us.
It’s important to judge the way you love by what the Word of God says and not how you feel. So let’s look at 1 Corinthians 13 which describes what love is and see if you are loving others the right way.
1 Corinthians 13
- Love is patient
- Love is kind
- It does not envy
- It does not boast
- It is not proud
- It is not rude
- It is not self-seeking
- It is not easily angered
- It keeps no record of wrongs
- Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
- It always protects
- It always trusts
- It always hopes
- It always perseveres.
If you were to grade yourself for each point. HOW LOVING ARE YOU?
Truth is, it’s God’s love in us that helps us to love others rightly. It can feel hard at times to love when love was not shown to you. Always remember that God loved you even when you didn’t love Him so this is the same love you must show to others. God will help you to not love only those who are good to you, but even those you consider your enemies.

1 John 4:7: “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God”.
